Help build a new sector of the economy that harnesses the power of business to solve social and environmental challenges.

Become a B Corporation by following these simple steps below. These corporations are exercising leadership and influencing the marketplace beyond their company, region and industry by speaking with one collective voice. B Corporations are redefining what it means to be successful.

The first step in becoming a B Corporation is taking the B Impact Assessment, which looks at the impact of your company on all of its stakeholders.  The standards change depending on the size (number of employees) and type of company (sector).  Completing the assessment usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Once you've completed the assessment, you will receive the B Report that contains a composite score and if that score is above 80 (out of 200 points available), you can go to Step 2. Go »

Next, schedule a Review with a B Lab staff member.  On this call, B Lab staff will make sure all questions are answered accurately.  The review also helps us understand more about the company and the unique circumstances and best practices related to your company.  On average, it takes about 60 minutes to complete a review.  To schedule a review, hit 'Submit your Certification' in your B Report or email thelab@bcorporation.net and let us know a few times that would work for you.  Go »

STEP 3: Understand the Legal Roadmap

You’ll have a year after certification to get through all the nitty gritty, but before you sign a term sheet you should check out the B Corp Legal Framework. For most companies this will entail an amendment to their corporate governing documents to incorporate stakeholder interests. This bakes your values into the DNA of your company so they can thrive under new management, new investors, and new ownership. The legal roadmap includes this language as well as the rationale behind it and some FAQ’s.  Go »

STEP 4: Make it Official

Once you have successfully completed the B Impact Assessment and you understand the legal commitment, it's time to make it official. We have a simple 2-page term sheet that lays out the expectations of Class of 2010 B Corporations as well as the B Corporation Declaration of Interdependence that marks your commitment to our shared mission.  Submitting the term sheet marks the beginning of your certification.  Go »

After you become a Certified B Corporation:

Within 90 days of your certification, we'll ask you to provide attach supporting documentation to approximately 10% of the answered questions.  The attachments are easy to complete and submit:  Go »

Within 1 year of their certification, B Corporations must amend their corporate governing documents to include the B Corp Legal Framework. The legal roadmap includes a step-by-step guide through this process. It's simpler than you think. Go »

STEP 7: Audits

20% of B Corporations are randomly selected for an on-site audit during every two year term. The audit component of the B Corp Certification is critical in maintaining the authenticity of the Certified B Corp Seal. Our goal for the audit is to verify the accuracy of each response on the company's B Impact Assessments.  Learn More »
