B Lab Global's 2023 mid-year update
As the seasons start to turn, I'm thrilled to provide an update on B Lab’s journey in 2023 so far. This year to date we’ve seen the movement of business as a force for good — including the global community of Certified B Corps — take another step in its development. Now over 7,300 B Corps operate in 93 countries and 161 industries, employing an incredible 650,000 workers. This year alone, 1,347 B Corps have been certified; the positive trajectory in submissions and certifications remains in line with the remarkable growth we saw between 2021 and 2022, which you can see in our 2022 annual report.
The year has been marked by milestones that embody the movement’s spirit of transformation and collaboration. From launching a Research Fellowship to explore the impact of the community to co-creating our most impactful B Corp Month yet amassing 60 million views, we have magnified the extraordinary efforts of B Corps and ignited a new wave of engagement with our shared values. The latest Summary Report of our multi-year initiative to evolve the standards for B Corp Certification showcased the clarity, impact, and achievability of the first draft, supported by the extensive stakeholder feedback we received.
As we look to the end of this year and into 2024, we’ll be focused on a second consultation to seek further input from the community on the revised draft of the standards, providing license to move forward with the process. In parallel, we are working to modernize our digital tools and processes to improve the user experience and prepare our platform for continued growth. Your unwavering support, as philanthropic partners, movement advocates, and valued community leaders, is the bedrock of our progress.
In community, Eleanor Allen, Lead Executive | B Lab Global
