As announcements from The Business Roundtable, policymakers like Elizabeth Warren and BlackRock’s Larry Fink have landed one after another, I am struck by two thoughts. First, that upending shareholder primacy has gone from the conversations of corporate governance and policy wonks to the boardrooms of the world’s biggest businesses, to mainstream news like The New York Times, and to social media. And, second, that the community of Certified B Corporations has been leading this conversation for more than a decade, transparently and vulnerably sharing stories of their successes and challenges for others to learn from and build upon—a contribution that makes us proud and fills us with gratitude.
What’s clear from the growing attention on the role of business is that the economy needs leaders, ones like those honored in this year’s annual Best For The World list. These honorees have successfully run profitable businesses alongside a net-positive impact on the environment, providing their employees with meaningful work, and uplifting the communities where they operate.
As the future of business is shaped by demand for companies to address their role in the climate crisis, growing inequality around the world, and other major global issues, Best For The World honorees are walking the walk—innovating solutions and sharing what they’ve learned with other leaders. That’s because instead of striving not only to be the best in the world, by leading the movement of people using business as a force for good, they make decisions that are best for the world—and that means they are working for all stakeholders.

B Lab is committed to uplifting Best For The World honorees year after year because they are proof that businesses play a significant role in the shift to a more inclusive, regenerative economy. The Best For The World honorees, and the entire community of B Corps, live that proof every day—voting for a new way to do business by how they operate, the companies they work with, and more.
