In December of 2015, Danone, a leading global food company, pledged to help more people use business as a force for good by joining B Lab's Multinationals and Public Markets Advisory Council (MPMAC).
Danone will join a group of experts in sustainability and impact for large, complex businesses and public capital markets to help address the systemic, institutional, and practical barriers to B Corp Certification for private and publicly-listed multinational companies. The MPMAC will also identify rigorous and meaningful performance standards and verification processes appropriate to companies of this size and scope. Learn more about the MPMAC.
Danone has also committed to using the B Impact Assessment https://bimpactassessment.net to measure and manage the social and environmental performance of 10 Group Danone subsidiaries in 2016. Danone's leadership paves the way for other multinationals to measure their impact with as much rigor as their profits, an important step towards creating the shared and durable prosperity we seek.
One Danone subsidiary is already a Certified B Corporation. Happy Family Brands, an organic food company for babies and toddlers, was certified as a B Corporation in 2011. Shazi Visram, founder and CEO of Happy Family, had this to say after learning Danone would be partnering with B Lab:
A successful B Corp movement needs an inclusive community that includes both Fortune 500 companies and small sole-proprietors. B Lab welcomes Danone and looks forward to creating meaningful and manageable pathways for all organizations to measure and improve their impact, no matter their scale.
